Tea of the Month: January 2012
Tea…is a religion of the art of life. – Okakura
My absolute favorite bedtime ritual is a hot cup of chamomile tea. Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is a sweet and aromatic plant, with a slightly bitter taste. Chamomile contains anti inflammatory constituents and works exceptionally well at decreasing inflammatory states in the nervous system. It is an ideal herb for a person who is restless, irritable, sensitive, complaining, argumentative, wants to have their way and can not be comforted.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is also bitter and aromatic. Lavender works well for headaches, muscle spasms, stammering and symptoms due to nervousness.
Together, these flowers create a soothing and fragrant tea that is ideal before bedtime.
- Infuse one teaspoon of Lavender with one tablespoon of Chamomile in one cup of water for ten minutes.
- Sweeten with honey (if you prefer a sweeter tea)
- Sip slowly, and enjoy
If you prefer to purchase a version of this tea, my favorite is by Traditional Medicinals.
