Giving joy through the holiday season can take on a variety of forms. What are your favorite ways to spread joy through the holidays?
The holiday season is filled with reasons to give and receive. Whether it’s a surprise package from your BBFF (thanks, Christine!), a secret Santa exchange with your bloggy buddies (thanks, Jamie!) or special coworker that leaves you gifts all week long (thanks, secret Elf!). The treats and goodies tend to be endless during the holiday season.
This year I participated in my first Secret Santa with a group of blogging friends and it was so much fun! My gift went to Jess at Hello to Fit and I received a gift from Jamie. Jamie packed me a box full of TJ’s Treats! Is there anything better than candy cane Joe Joe’s and dark chocolate peanut butter cups? Definitely not.
My work secret santa was also pretty spectacular. He/she stocked me with my favorite EOS products, a beautiful tea tumbler and a book to read over my break. The big reveal happens today and I can’t wait!
My BBFF Christine took the time to send me an incredible package of goodies from New Hampshire, including fresh maple syrup and tea from a local shop (among other things). Christine filled my heart and my tea cup with SO much joy. I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful friend.
As you can see, I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of JOY! Which is funny, because I love giving and I feel like I got so much more than I gave this year. Luckily the season isn’t over yet and there is still plenty of time to give back. Giving joy through the holiday season can take on a variety of forms. Here are my favorite ways to spread joy through the holidays:
1. The Gift of Time:
Taking a few hours out of your busy schedule to give to others is one big way to fill your heart with joy. Serve a meal at a food bank, offer to shovel snow for an elderly neighbor, babysit for a friend, or spend some time visiting the homeless animals at your local shelter.
2. The Gift of Conversation
The holidays have a tendency to speed life up. We run on overdrive and often commit to lots of extra events and activities. Take a few moments to slow down and share a cup of tea with a coworker or to call your parents if they don’t live nearby. Catching up with loved ones near and far is a good way to put joy into your heart and theirs.
3. The Gift of Food
Everyone knows that the way to any person’s heart is through the belly. Bake a batch of cookies to share with friends or bring in breakfast for your team at work. Host a cookie exchange, which also gives you an excuse to get together with friends and family. And of course, give to your local food bank if you can. Many families are struggling to make ends meet through the holidays and the food bank is their only source of nutritious food. Consider donating peanut butter, beans, canned tuna or rice. Each food bank offers a “critical needs” list and you can find your local food bank by visiting Feeding America’s website.
Your turn: how do you spread joy during the holiday season? Do you do it by singing loud enough for all to hear?
(That’s for all my Elfie’s out there!)
