The morning of my wedding, my eyes opened right before my 4:00am alarm went off. I was nervous and excited. I spent the night in my own house and my own bed. Despite superstitions, Matt and I were together and I think we needed that.
I had packed my bags the night before and quickly got dressed, kissed my puppies goodbye and headed to my moms. As I was leaving, the best man (my future Brother in Law) was arriving. Seeing him walk up the driveway made me so happy – I was comforted by his presence immediately and I knew that he would be comforting for Matt, too.
I arrived at my mom’s around 5:00am, the make up artists were in full swing and a few girls were already set with makeup. Everyone looked sleepy, naturally, but my matron of honor, Jenny, put on some jams and soon enough the sun was up, and we were feeling more awake.
My sister and Jenny did a Starbucks run for all the girls and came back with a special BRIDE cup just for me. I was a nervous wreck. I was so worried that we wouldn’t be on time, or that something would go wrong. Planning the wedding myself was a huge undertaking, and despite the help of family and friends, I completely stressed about it all. Plus the house was full of girls getting ready, which felt a little overwhelming. I do much better when I have a little breathing room so I went up to my parent’s bedroom for a few minutes alone prior to getting dressed.
My sister, Jenny and my mom helped dress me and in no time at all, I was making my entrance. I love that my photographer captured the reaction of my bridesmaids.
One of my favorite moments of the morning was having a first look with my dad. Those few seconds and his reaction were amazing. I always knew I wanted to do a first look, but I never would have guessed that my dad would show such beautiful emotion in the moment.
At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted or needed my photographer to take pictures as we got dressed. Looking back it was the BEST decision. The photos from those early morning hours are some I will always treasure.
While the ladies got dressed, the boys enjoyed a leisurely morning breakfast. Soon enough the ceremony would be starting…
